These small hamster looking humanoids might look innocent and harmless, be quiet, keep mostly to themselves, but they can be really vicious and can be quite impolite at times.
Qabats might be grain farmers now, for the most part, but once they were exclusively raiders and they still are.
Qabats usually raid other small races to the point where Treocs consider them nuisance. To counterbalance the resentment from the other small races, qabats have always been maintaining strong relationships with the tall races to get their protection in any of the numerous open conflicts that have arisen over the millenniums.
Qabats live in small clans of up to 20 families, each living in its own tunnel home. The only way to spot a qabat settlement, is the grain cultures that seem to be without farmers.
Tunnel Homes
These tunnel homes might not be luxurious, but they are still very comfortable and very extensive, sometimes accommodating families as large as 30 to 40 individuals.
"Be smart, don't be stupid" is a phrase often repeated by qabats. Even when doing something rash, which happens regularly, qabats do it in an intelligent manner. Not using your head is badly viewed in qabat society.
This doesn't mean aggressive. It means to always be ready to exploit an opportunity. Strike at the right moment. Keep you eyes open, then pounce.
It also means that a qabat should always give all it has when committing to a course of action. Never half measures.
Hide your traces, never carry out an open conflict, stay cool. This attitude as led to a very polite qabat society, which often is just a thin veil pulled over some very harsh judgmental backstabbing power struggles within their society.
